Red Sox at Royals August 20th

Went to the Red Sox at Royals game tonight since my roomate is a Red Sox fan and needed someone to go to the game with.  With the hope that I would see a Red Sox loss I decided I would go and was later rewarded in the 9-4 loss.  We got seats in the left field outfield right next to the Royals bullpen.
This is Royals starter Felipe Paulino warming up in the Royals bullpen.

Right before the game started all the bullpen pitchers made their way out to the bullpen right in front of us.

Now you might think this is a picture of a beer vender but it is supposed to be of Wakefield heading to the dugout after warming up.  This outing was a chance for him to collect his 200th career win.  He did not succeed in this quest.

This is a picture of Carl Crawford in left field.  He has not had quite the season the Red Sox were hoping.

Alex Gordon in left field.  He had a very nice day and was a big reason the Royals won.

Gordon again.

A picture of the cool fountains and scoreboard at Kauffman Stadium

Here is picture of Wakefield on the mound trying to win his 200th game.
Chris Getz who, just as I did, went to Michigan.  He is now playing for the Royals after previously being on the White Sox.
This is Wakefield getting taken out of the game.  The Red Sox would give up 8 runs in this inning to lose the game.
Royals pitcher Greg Holland coming out of the bullpen in the 8th innings.  He pitched the rest of the game to close it out for the Royals.
A picture of the postgame high fives after the Royals beat the Red Sox

I am again going to the game tomorrow since my roommate got us suite tickets.  More picture tomorrow...

A-Rod Mentoring Jesus Montero

Here is a really interesting article about Alex Rodriguez's time in AAA.  He has been help to mentor Jesus Montero during his time rehabbing in Scranton/Wilkes Barre.  Although Rodriguez might not be the best role model off the field, he is definitely a great hitter and someone who Jesus can learn from.

Another interesting part of the article was when the AAA hitting coach said Montero was bored at AAA.  I am not surprised by this and am really excited for Montero to get called up, hopefully in the near future.  If not before he will almost definitely be called up when rosters expand on September 1st.  Therefore it will be two weeks at the most by the time Jesus is called up.  Hopefully he has taken some hitting tips from A-Rod and will be a big time big leaguer soon.

Yankees Sign John Brebbia

I was looking through the rosters of the low levels of the Yankee system to try to find signees and unexpectedly found John Brebbia on the Staten Island Yankees roster.  This makes it seem as if he did indeed sign.  You will hopefully see him in the 2011 Draftee Update in the next few days as he makes his professional debut.

Yankees at Royals August 17th

Yankees were still in Kansas City so I went to another game in the series.  Was able to find tickets on StubHub for 1.39 a piece and even with service fees they were just over $4 for a ticket. That's rediculous.  This one they lost on a strikeout with the bases loaded by Jorge Posada.  Here are some pictures.
Former Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon warming up in the bullpen.

Picture of the Yankees infield from my seats.
Royals closer Joakim Soria coming in to close out the game.  He almost blew it but ended up getting the save.

Deadline Signings

According to Lohud Yankees blog and Baseball America these following prospects have signed before the deadline last night.

Greg Bird - Round 5 - C
Both sites have him signing.

Jake Cave - Round 6 - OF
Both sites have him signing.

William "Rookie" Davis - Round 14 - P
Both sites have his signing.

Daniel Camarena - Round 20 - P
Both sites have him signing

Adam Smith - Round 25 - P
Baseball America has him signing but not listed on Lohud

Chaz Hebert - Round 27 - P
Lohud has him signing but not listed on Baseball America

Joe Maher - Round 38 - Pitcher
Both sites have him signing.

It looks like the Yankees have only signed one player who was drafted after the 30th round.  While this could be seen as a failure most players drafted after the 30th round are just minor league filler players so not a huge deal.

Hopefully these players will be in the minor in the next few day on the road to Yankee Stadium.

Yankees at Royals August 15th

Since I am now working for the Kansas City Chiefs, I am in Kansas City.  Therefore I was able to make it to the Yankees game tonight in KC.  I took a bunch of pictures and will share them.
This is a picture of the outfield at Kauffman Stadium.  It has one huge screen that is awesome.  This stadium is newly renovated and really shows it.  You can also see the fountain next to it which is very cool.  Right in from of the fountain is the Party Porch where you can stand right on center field.  Besides the fact that you get quite wet from the fountain behind you it is a really cool place to watch a game.

This is a view of home plate.  It is a interestingly shaped stadium.  Looking from the highway you can see into the park.

This is the view of left field.  There is the Hall of Honor with retired numbers and such.  There are also more fountains over in that area.

We sat near the bullpen and I went over and got two shots of AJ Burnett warming up in the bullpen.

Here are some Yankees in the bullpen.

This is a picture of Jeff Francoeur.  Francoeur was once a top 15 prospect for the Braves and had a few good seasons there.  Recently however, he has not been quite as good.  He is still a solid player but not the star most people thought he was destined to be.

This is a picture of the Yankees infield in the first.  What a great infield.

A picture of former Yankee, Melky Cabrera.  He now plays center for the Royals.  He actually had two bad fielding plays in this game but is hitting pretty decently for the Royals.

Here is a picture of Melky on the big board.

Melky again.

Yankees in the field.  A view from the Party Porch

Another view from the Party Porch.

View of the outfield from the infield.  The fountain looks really cool.

My dad and me have a tradition of buying pins at all the stadiums we go to.  I took this picture to send to him.

And then came Mo.  He came in and was Mo.  Getting three out and recording the save.

Those are all the picture I have but there are a few things about the Royals that are interesting.  First, they have a pretty good offense.  Alex Gordon, once the #2 overall prospect in baseball, is their leadoff hitter.  Although he has not become the superstar they thought he would be but is still a very solid major leaguer.

As I mentioned before Francoeur, who was also a top prospect is in their offense.  Then Billy Butler who was a decent prospect has been very solid for KC over the last few years.

Then their is their new prospects that have recently been called up.  The biggest ones are Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas.  Hosmer has been pretty successful so far in his first big league season but Moustakas is struggling.  He is hitting under .190 and hitting 8th in the Royals lineup.  They are expecting a lot more out of him but since he is a rookie he still has time to develop.

If KC can get some pitching this team could be decent in years to come.

Dellin Betances to AAA

According to Dellin Betances' twitter account he has been promoted to AAA Scranton/Wilkes Barre.  This come shortly after Manny Banuelos was called up to AAA.  Now three of the top four Yankees prospects are one step away from the majors (Betances, Banuelos, and Jesus Montero).  All but Gary Sanchez who is still far away from the bigs have chances to be called up to the big league team by the end of the season.  It is good to see top Yankees prospects progressing.  Especially after reading Ed Valentines' take on how the Yankees have not been good at developing pitchers I am hopeful that the next batch will be successful major leaguers for the Yankees.

Betances' tweet is below:
