Yankees Sign Jordan Cote

The Yankees have signed 3rd round pick Jordan Cote.  Link here.

Since he is a high school kid he will most likely pitch in the Golf Coast League.  However, since he was such a high round pick there is a chance he will land at Staten Island.

JD Martinez is called up to the Astros and goes deep

Now you may be wondering why I would post about an Astros prospect that was just called up to the big leagues.  The answer is that I was the Media Relations intern with the Tri-City ValleyCats, the low A, short season, affiliate of the Astros in 2009 (they are in the same league as the Staten Island Yankees).  One of my coolest memories was picking up a young slugger name JD Martinez, who had been tearing up the Golf Coast League, from the airport when he was promoted.  What made it even cooler was that it was on my birthday and I got to spend about half an hour (how long it took to get from the airport to the ballpark) shooting the shit with JD.  Then he went on to have a great year at Tri-City and this past week he was called up to the Astros to replace Hunter Pence.

Last night, in his fifth game as an Astro he went deep for the first time.  Thus far in the bigs he is hitting .313 with a HR, 2 runs and 5 RBIs.  I would like to take this moment to congratulate JD and wish him the best of luck.

Martinez was actually not the first player from the 2009 ValleyCats team to make the Astros.  Jose Altuve who only played 21 games in Tri-City that season has played 14 games in the show this year.  He is a diminutive second baseman who is listed at 5-7 but isn't nearly that tall.

Yankees at White Sox August 3rd

I attended the Yankees slaughtering of the White Sox last night in Chicago.  I got really good seats about 5 rows behind the White Sox bullpen in left field.  I got some good pictures that I thought I would share.
This is a picture of Gavin Floyd warming up in the bullpen right in front of us.  He would go on to give up 10 runs in 2.1 innings.
The Yankees take to US Cellular Field in the bottom of the first
During the pregame I saw this pitcher and could not figure out why he looked so familiar to me.  Then he turned around and I saw that it was Brian Bruney, former Yankee reliever.  This is a picture of him warming up before going into the game in the 7th.  He was ejected before recording any outs for arguing a call at first.
The Yankees win. Theeeeeeeee Yankees win!

Jorge Vazquez won the International Leagues player of the week for this past week.  There are rumbling around the Yankee system that a few promotions are about to take place soon.  One that has already taken place is Manny Banuelos being promoted to AAA and is set to start tonight's game.  It has also been rumored that Jesus Montero would be called up to the big leagues very shortly.  This would mean that Austin Romine would most likely be promoted to AAA.  There have also been rumblings that Dellin Betances would be called up to AAA.  All of this means that the Scranton/Wilkes Barre lineup and rotation may look very different from right now in the next few weeks.
