2011 Draftee Season Update July 25th

Dante Bichette Jr. - Round 1 - Third Base
Bichette has recently gone on a hot streak, which has raised his average over .300 for the season.  His line today looks like a .305 average with a HR, 19 run and  21 RBIs, in the Gulf Coast League.  He has played his entire season in the GCL this season, 26 games up to this point.

Matt Duran - Round 4 - Third Base
Duran signed yesterday and therefore has done nothing in the minors so far.

Philip Wetherell - Round 8 - Relief Pitcher
Wetherell has spent his entire season with the Low A short season, Staten Island Yankees.  He has been very successful over his 12 appearances.  He is 3-0 with a great 1.54 ERA.  He also has one save and has struck out 13 in 11.2 innings pitched.

Zach Arneson - Round 9 - Relief Pitcher
Arneson has also spent his entire season at Staten Island.  He is currently on the 7-day disabled list so has only made 6 appearances this season.  In those 6 appearances he is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA.  He has also struck out 7 in 6 innings pitched.

Mark Montgomery - Round 11 - Relief Pitcher
Montgomery is currently the 2011 draftee at the highest level.  He is currently pitching for the Charleston RiverDogs who are the Low A affiliate.  He started the season with the Staten Island Yankees and there went 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA, 1 save, and 10 strikeouts over 4 innings in 4 appearances.  He was then promoted to Charleston where he has gone 0-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 8 appearances.  He has become the closer for Charleston and has converted 7 saves.  He has also struck out 18 in only 9.1 innings.

Cody Grice - Round 12 - Outfielder
Grice has played his entire season at Staten Island. His season statistics are a .280 average, 11 runs, and 6 RBIs in 15 games.  He has also stolen 7 bases and has yet to be caught. The reason he has not played more games is because he spent some time on the DL earlier in the season.  These days he mostly hits 5th for the SI Yankees but occasionally will take the leadoff spot.

Justin James - Round 13 - Outfielder
James has played 8 games with the GCL Yankees.  He was later to sign then some of the others and therefore did not play his first professional game until July 5th.  Since them he has played sporadically for the GCL team, batting toward the end of their lineup when he plays.  He has been hitting however, with a .346 average, 8 runs, and 2 RBIs will hopefully start to see more at bats.

Branden Pinder - Round 16 - Relief Pitcher
Pinder has spent his entire career with the Staten Island Yankees.  There he is currently their closer and has converted 9 save opportunities.  This distinction has been well earned.  He is sporting a 1-0 record with an amazing 0.69 ERA.  He has pitched in 12 games, 13 innings, and has struck out 18.  If you were wondering, to have an ERA that low through those few innings it means that he has only given up one run so far this season.

Robert Paullus - Round 19 - Relief Pitcher
Paullus has spent the entire season in Staten Island.  There he has had decent success.  He is currently 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA and 1 save.  He has pitched in 9 games, 13.2 innings, striking out 22 while only walking 2 batters.

Zach Wilson - Round 21 - First Base
Wilson has played the most games of any offensive 2011 draftee.  He currently hits in the cleanup spot in the SI Yankees lineup, right behind the top draftees from last year.  His numbers so far this season aren't great, a .237 average with 4 HRs, 18 run and, 16 RBIs in 30 games.  He has also struck out 20 times to only 7 walks.

Corey Maines - Round 23 - Relief Pitcher
Maines started the season with the Staten Island Yankees, but after 2 appearances and a 16.20 ERA in 1.2 innings he was send down to the GCL.  There he has had more success.  In 7 appearances, 7.2 innings, he has gone 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA and 5 strikeouts.

Matt Tracy - Round 24 - Relief Pitcher
Tracy has spent his entire season in Staten Island.  He has made 9 appearances, 1 start, pitching 19 innings to date.  He has a 0-0 record with a 2.37 ERA and 17 strikeouts.  He has given up 5 runs so far this season and all 5 were in his one start, in which he only lasted 2 innings.

Yankees Sign Matt Duran

It appears the Yankees have signed Matt Duran, their fourth round pick.  The link is here.

On another signing note.  Some of you may have noticed that I had a post that stated that Sam Stafford had signed, however, he has yet to play a inning of minor league ball.  I have been searching for info about this but have yet to find anything.  Hopefully he will show up on a Yankee affiliate soon.
