FSL Top Prospects Announced

The tops 20 prospects for the Florida State League were announced today.  The Yankees affiliate in that league is the Tampa Yankees (High A).  The Yankees did not a have any prospects listed in the top 20.  This does not come as a big surprise.  The biggest prospect to play there this season (Slade Heathcott) only played one game there before he was injured and shut down for the season.

The next biggest prospect there was most likely JR Murphy, another catcher in the Yankees system.  He however, didn't have a great season so it is no surprise he is not listed.  Just a note on this, the Yankee system is ridiculously deep at catcher.  The fact that Murphy, a second round pick in 2009, is the 4th best catcher in the Yankee system (after Montero, Romine, and Sanchez).

The other decent prospects at this level this season were Robert Lyerly, but he was called up half way through the season; David Adams, but he only played in the FSL for 12 days; and Zoilo Almonte, but he is still under the radar as a major league prospect.  It isn't a surprise that none of these players aren't top 20 in the league so overall, there is no surprises here.
