Yankees Draft: 5th Round - Gregory Bird C

H: 6'3"

Gregory Bird was drafted out of Grandview High School in Colorado.

During the 2008-09 season he had a .500 average with 14 HR, 32 RBI, and 17 runs. He was ranked by MaxPreps to be the 27th best player in Colorado.

For the 2009-10 season he did even better.  He hit .660 with 13 HR, 42 RBI, and 29 runs.  That year being ranked the 9th best player in Colorado by MaxPreps.

His senior year his batting line was a .553 average with 12 HR, and 38 RBIs.

His scouting report from Perfect Game USA read:
Greg Bird is a 2011 C/IF with a 6-3 205 lb. frame from Aurora, CO who attends Grandview HS. Big strong physical build. Comfortable catching set up, shifts well, soft hands, some arm strength, tends to stand up when throwing, 1.99 best pop time. Left handed hitter, open stance, long extended swing, gets to his front side well, lots of lift in swing, big power on his pitch, mistake hitter but can really put a charge into the ball. Very good student.

He was also voted the Gatorade Player of the Year for Colorado in baseball making him the second Yankee draft pick today to take that honor.
