Yankees Draft: 29th Round - Scott Hoffman RHP

Hoffman is out of Desert Ridge High School in Arizona. He is committed to play at Arizona State University.

In 2010, he was a MaxPreps Junior All-American.  MaxPreps has his hitting stats here but the Yankees drafted him as a pitcher and they do not list his pitching stats.  He was selected as the Rebulic Big School Baseball Player of the Year after that season.

As a senior in 2011, he was rated as the 5th best prep player in Arizona and 54th nationally by MaxPreps so this looks like the Yankees may have gotten a steal in round 29 if they are able to sign him.  His stats for the season were a 13-0 record with a 2.01 ERA (other website lists it at 1.80). He also had 76 strikeouts in 66 innings.  He was selected to the All-State second team but as a DH, not a pitcher.

A report was done on him by ESPN RISE which reads:
Scott Hoffman, Desert Ridge (Mesa, Ariz.)
The standout junior led Desert Ridge (31-4, No. 14 in this week’s FAB 50) to the Class 5A Division I state title. In the final, an 11-4 win over Mountain Pointe (Phoenix, Ariz.), Hoffman pitched a complete game and hit a home run for the third straight game. He also was the winning pitcher in an earlier state playoff game against Gilbert (Gilbert, Ariz.), ending the season 12-0 on the mound.
