Yankees Draft: 21st Round - Zach Wilson 3B

Wilson is out of Arizona State University.  He played his high school baseball at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California.  He was actually drafted out of high school in 2008 in the 26th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates but chose to go to college.

His high school accomplishments are a first-team all-league selection in each of his last two seasons.  He was part of team that won state title and ended the year ranked No. 1 in the nation by Baseball America in 2007and was a 2007 USA Baseball Tournament of the Stars participant.


His freshman year at Arizona State was decent.  In 38 games, 22 starts, mostly at DH, he hit .275 with 9 RBI and 7 runs.


He improved significantly during his sophomore year.  He played in 49 games, again mostly at DH, and was Honorable Mention for the All-Pac 10 team.  His stats look like a .349 average with 8 HR, 45 RBIs, and 38 runs.  During the summer after this season he played in the Cap Cod league and won the MVP of the All-Star game at Fenway Park.


During his junior year he started to play more 3B.  His hitting declined.  This season he hit .270 with 7 HRs, 44 RBIs, and 33 runs.  He also started a team high 58 games.
